The Good Person Test

These are the bare bones that will help get you started. Once you are familiar with this you can begin to add your own meat - e.g. see Advanced script.

The idea is to get the people you are sharing with to compare what they think makes a good person to what the bible says a good person is according to the 10 commandments. Then give them the 'Good News'

Remember you are not trying to reach their intellect which is the place of argument. You are trying to reach right into their conscience's, which is the place of right & wrong. This is what makes the whole process so easy.

Flipchart "SKELETON" Training Outline

GOOD PERSON TEST

Two points to note:

1. This presentation is non confrontational.

Do not coerce people to do the Good Person Test

- smile and let them walk by - they'll be back later on!

2. This ministry is not about entrapment, "bait and switch" or deceit.

Early in your presentation inform the person that the Good Person Test is based on the Ten Commandments - few will walk away.

Click here to go to the Advanced Flipchart Training Guide.

Flipchart Training Guide

This Flipchart outline is based on Ray Comfort's "Way of the Master" Acronyms (WDJD, CCRAFT) and aimed at teaching flip chart beginners

(It may then be fleshed out later on with scripture, stories , and anecdotes). Click here for the Advanced Training Guide.

WDJD

Would you consider Yourself A Good Person?

Do you think you have Kept the Ten Commandments?

Judgment- If God were to judge you by the Ten Commandments would you be innocent or guilty?

Destiny- Do you think you would go to Heaven or Hell?

CCRAFT

Concern- Does that concern you?

Cross- Jesus suffered and died for our sins, died and rose from the dead

Repentance- Confess and forsake all sin

And

Faith- More than belief, it's trust in Jesus for Salvation

Truth- Point to the truth of the Bible and encourage them to get right with God today.

Note: It is very important that you try to get them to admit that they are a liar, thief, blasphemer or murderer at heart.

Try not to tell them they are these things otherwise you will come across as judgmental and make it harder to reach their conscience.

Remember you are not trying to get into an intellectual argument.

'The Good Person Test'

COVER PAGE

Cover Page: Are you good enough

Introduction Tips:

Are you feeling adventuresome? or...

Excuse me have you seen this?

Would you like to try it?

It is free and only takes a few minutes.

Q. Have you seen  the Good person Test ?

W ould you consider yourself to be a good person?

LET'S SEE HOW YOU MEASURE UP?

It is based on the 10 Commandments .

We'll see how you go against a few of them.

Would you like to try it? (okay)

Optional:

These people* think they are good people who make good decisions. We obviously need a standard for what we mean by "good". So we are going to use the Ten Commandments as that standard.

  • Adolph Hitler, Klu Klux Klan, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein - or you!
  •
  • The Oxford Dictionary definition of the word good is what is morally excellent.
  •
  • The Ten Commandments are a universal moral standard

Choose three or four of the Commandments to take them through

Question One - Do Not Lie

Commandment N0 9

Liar

Tips:

Don’t forget to smile and have some fun with them.

As you go through the commandments it important that you agree with them that you have broken that commandment to.

This creates empathy and shows them that you are not pointing the finger at them in self-righteousness.

The picture is an illusion.

It represents one of the commandments (#9).

  • Can you see the picture?
  • Can you see the Word?

The commandment says Do not lie.

Q1. Have you ever told a lie; big or small?

Q2. What do we call someone who tells a lie?

So if we lie, what does that make us?

Once you get them to confess, go to the next page.

Question Two - Do Not Steal

Commandment N0 8

Thief

This person is taking something that does not belong to him.

Don’t forget to smile and have some fun with them.

What do you think this picture is conveying?

Another commandment says do not steel (#8)

Q1. Have you ever stolen something? The value is irrelevant.

Q2. What do you call someone who takes something that does not belong to them? (Thief)

What does that make you?  (A Thief)(That's right, a thief the same as me)

Once you get them to confess, go to the next page.

Question 3 - Do Not Blaspheme

COMMANDMENT N0 3

Blasphemy

Once you get them to confess, go to the next page.

What do you see in this picture? (Road Rage)

Another commandment says we should not blaspheme God’s name -treat God’s name with disrespect. (3)

Q1. Have you ever used God’s name disrespectfully? (Jesus, Christ, Oh My God as swear words)  (me too)

Q2. So if you use God’s name disrespectfully what does that make you? (A blasphemer, the same as me)

...OR COMMANDMENT 6 DO NOT MURDER
  • What do you see in this picture? (Road Rage, anger, hate)
  • Another Commandment says we should not commit murder. (#6)
  • The Bible says if we hate someone in our heart we are murders at heart.
  • Q1. Have you ever been angry and hated someone even for a moment in time? (Me too)
  • Q2. What does that make you? (A murderer at heart)
  •   Then like me you are guilty of committing murder in your heart
Question Four - Do Not Covet

Commandment N0 10

Coveting

Another Commandment says we should not covet (#10) (envious/jealous)

Q1. Have you ever been envious or jealous of someone? (Envy their money, possessions/academic or sporting ability - their relationships - success) - (Me too)

Q2. So what do you think that make you guilty of? Envious, or covetous? (Just like me)

Once you get them to confess, go to the next page.

Question Four - Do Not Commit Adultery

Commandment N0 7

Adultery

Once you get them to confess, go to the next page.

Q. What do you think these people are doing that violates one of the 10 commandments?

Give them a scenario like....

Both of these people are married, but not to each other. What is that called? - Adultery. (Most will answer 'Cheating')

Q. Have you ever done that? - Wait for them to give you an answer - most will say no.

Jesus said  " 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY';  But I say to you that everyone who looks at another person with lust for them has already committed adultery with that person in their heart.

Q. Have you ever done that?- Wait for them to give you an answer - Most will say YES. Some will lie or not want to admit it. Encourage them to say yes.

Q. So what does that make you? - Wait for them to answer An Adulterer at heart. (The same as me).

Q. Do you still consider yourself to be a good person according to Gods standards?

You have just admitted that you have broken several of the Commandments.  So you are not a good person. You are the same as me and the rest of the world - (SMILE)

Ask these Questions at the end of your the Commandment pages.

Tips:

Remember the law is given to show us that we are sinners. The sins that we all commit are simply the evidence that we have a deeper problem working deep within our soul. We are ALL sinners separated from God for all eternity.

The 10 commandments are simply a spiritual light to show us that there is something evil working in our soul which has separated us from God.

Just like when you shine a bright light onto a wall in a dark room. You see the wall in its true state; with all its blemishes.

The Bible tells us…

There is none good, not even one man/woman – Romans 3:12

For all have sinned and fall short of Gods standards - Romans 3:23

Because of one man’s sin (Adam) we have all become sinners. Romans 5:19

The Courtroom

It is appointed for man to die once, then face Judgment.

Courtroom

Q. If God was to Judge you according to the Ten Commandments, do you think you would be innocent or guilty?

Helpful tips:

  • Important Note: Don't leave this page open to the public as you continue. Just give them a glimpse for a few seconds, then flip it back to the Courtroom page or Front cover page you talk.

The reason is that Passers by have no idea what you are doing and this keeps what you are doing covert. If people think its religious they won't give it a go. However if they have no idea but walk past sometimes several times, their curiosity often gets the better of them and they come and ask what its all about.

It can add impact if you open this page and give them a glimpse several times as you share.

The following is where you can get creative. It is important to be led by the Holy Spirit and listen to Him for words of knowledge and wisdom.

  • If they say “I do not believe in heaven/hell”,  Use the word’ IF’. If there was a hell? Ask what their spiritual beliefs are. Listen to them and this will then give you the right to share what you believe…(at your discretion use the Laminate tool to present the Gospel message if they are not defensive)
  • If they say “I think I am a good person and would go to heaven” – remind them they have broken God’s law and ask them if they think a good judge should let someone off for committing a serious crime because they think they are normally a good person? If God is good He will see justice is done. God is a God of love but He is also a God of justice. Jesus said no one can come to the Father except through me.
  • This is not a love issue - it is a JUSTICE issue. Because God is a God of love, He sent his son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin so that justice could be done and we can have the chance to put things right with God.
  • It is NOT God’s will for anyone to perish. It is Gods will to save you. John 3:17

Q. Do you know what God has done for you so that you don’t have to go to hell?

Introduce the Gospel using The Test Laminate Tool

Heaven or Hell?

Judgment

GLIMPSE ONLY

NB: Just give a brief glimpse of this page, never fully expose it or leave it on display as that can put people passing by off from taking the test.

Q. If you are a guilty criminal on judgment day, where do you think God would send you - heaven or hell?

If their answer is hell…

Q. Does that concern you if this is true?

Q. Do you know what God has done for you so that you don’t have to go to hell?

Optional:

You don’t want to go to Hell. I don’t want you to go to hell. God does not want you to go to Hell.

As much as God is a God of love He is also a God of justice and He cannot simply ignore the wrong we do. We will all have to face God on judgment day.

Tip If they say No they are not concerned. Ask why not?

If they say:

1. God is a God of love...

A: God cannot let liars and thieves and murderers into heaven just because they say sorry.

What if our local judge let everyone go who said they were sorry- would that be just?

2. Hell is a party place.

A: The body may die but the soul goes on forever. The media would have us believe Hell is a party but Jesus made it clear Hell was a place of great torment. Luke 17-28

To get back on track...

…Ask who they think Jesus to be? - turn the page to give your reply.

DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD DESERVE TO GO TO HEAVEN OR HELL?

DOES THIS CONCERN YOU?

AT THIS POINT USE THE TEST LAMINATE TOOL TO SHARE THE GOSPEL

You've Broken God's Law...

Jesus Took Your Punishment

GOSPEL MESSAGE
USING THE TEST LAMINATE TOOL

  Picture 1  Picture 2

So here’s the problem. We have all broken God’s laws. All of us are guilty.

When we break God’s laws we are saying to God that we don’t respect Him and want to live for ourselves.

Because of this attitude there is a big barrier between us and God

 Picture 3 Picture 4

If this barrier remains up at death, there is only one place left for you…Hell. It is a tragic place and it is what you and I deserve. That’s the bad news, but here is the Good News.

Picture 5   Picture 6

Even though you deserve hell, God wants to forgive and save your life forever.

To do this, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life and then died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve upon Himself.

We broke the law and Jesus paid our fine.

Three days after He died. He rose to life again.

Removed the barrier and made a bridge for us to cross over back to God.

 Picture 7

Picture 8

To cross the bridge you simply have to do two things.

Firstly, be willing to turn away from what you know offends God.

Secondly, surrender yourself to Jesus, ask Him to forgive you and enter your life. When you do this, He takes you from one side to the other side. You can’t cross over yourself. Only Jesus can get you across.

 Picture 9 Picture 10

If you died tonight which side would you be on?

Does that concern you?

Would you like to turn and surrender to Jesus right now?

If they say yes – Turn to the next page and read to them the Summary Questions

If they say no – ask them what is stopping them? And Give the person The Test Gospel tract

TIPS

People who say “I am already a Christian”

It is not just enough to believe in a historical Jesus who forgives sin .Even the devil believes.

The person who believes is like the person on a plane who wrongly believes a parachute will save them if the plane begins to crash. The only thing that will save us when the plane goes down is to act and put the parachute on. We need to turn from what we know offends God and surrender ourselves to Jesus and ask Him to forgive us .Have you ever had a time in your life when you have turned your life around and surrendered everything to follow God?

If they say yes ask if they have repented? Ask them how long ago that was and how is their Christian walk going now?

Are they reading God’s word? Sharing their faith? If someone had five minutes left to live could they lead that person to the Lord? Would they like to be shown how they can share their faith with others?

SUMMARY QUESTIONS

1.    Do you agree that you are guilty of rebelling against God by breaking His laws?

2.    Do you understand the consequences of your rebellion?

3.    Do you understand that Jesus died on the cross to take your punishment and that God loves you, wants to enter your life and help you become the person He wants you to be?

4.    Are you willing to turn away from sin and surrender your life to Jesus

5.    If you understand what you need to do to get right with God today (Repent & Trust)… When are you going to do it?

Read summary Questions

If they say yes – go to next page and read the prayer

If they say no:

Ask what would prevent you from surrendering your life to Jesus right now?

If they want to take time to think about it:

  • Encourage them to take a tract (point to contact number on the back if they have further questions)
  • Talk it over with a Christian they know
  • Have a go at talking to God about everything. Ask Him… if what I have heard is true – then prove it to me.

COUNT THE COST Luke 14:28

  • Are you prepared to follow Jesus no matter whatever happens, or what others may think, through tough times as well as the good times?

SINNERS SAMPLE PRAYER GUIDE

Dear Jesus,

I confess that I amin rebellion against you and I’m truly sorry. I want to turn away from those things that offend you and start living my life Your way. Please forgive me.

Thank you for dying on the cross to take the punishment for my sins (past present and future) on Yourself.

Ithank You that the Father raised You from the deadto make me right with God.

Thank You for entering my life by your Spirit and making me the person You want me to be, Amen.

Please remember this is not a formular. You cannot be born again just by saying a prayer. This new birth is a work of grace between you and God. It can only be experienced as you genuinley believe the message of the gospel in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.

The Sinners prayer is found in the laminate and in the tract. It is not a magic prayer. It contains guidelines.

(If the person is of the opposite sex try and find someone on the team of the same sex to go through the prayer with them).

  • If they make repent of their sin and put their trust in Jesus to save them:
  • Encourage them to tell someone else about the step they have just taken. Do they know any Christians?
  • Ask if they would like to meet with you again for coffee within the next 24hours. (You can begin discipling them using material from Omega Discipling Series Book 2 (available from www.omega-discipleship.com) or the SOW course if you have completed this .

The Gospel

Even though we deserve hell, God wants to forgive and save you. So he sent his Son Jesus Christ to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life and then died on the cross. To take the punishment we deserve on Himself. We broke Gods law and Jesus paid our fine. Three days after He died He rose to life again, and made a way for us to put things right with God. To do this:

First . We need to be willing to TURN from what we know is wrong (point to U turn). You won’t be perfect but you need to turn away from those things that offend God.

Second , SURRENDER yourself to Jesus, ask Him to forgive you and enter your life.

We can never make ourselves good enough to be in God’s presence, only Jesus can do this for us.

Q. Is there anything that would prevent you from being willing to turn and surrender to Jesus right now?

(Count the cost. Pray sinners prayer - (refer to the Test tract ).

Give tract - The TEST

For counting the cost and the sinners prayer use this tract.

If they make a decision & are ready for repentance and faith in Christ:

  • Encourage them to tell someone else about the step they have just taken. Do they know any Christians?
  • Ask if they would like to meet with you again for coffee within the next 24hours. (You can begin discipling them using material from Omega Discipling Series Book 2 (available from http://omega-discipleship.com) or the SOW course if you have completed this.
  • Try and give them a contact for a local Christian /church they can connect with. Be willing to accompany them to a church even if it is not your own.

More tips

Jesus Life:

Jesus lived a perfect life on earth. If Jesus was to do the Good Person Test, He would be the only person to ever pass it perfectly.

Jesus Death:

This is a picture of the Cross. See the nails?

Jesus Died on the cross and His body was buried for 3 days while His soul went into Hell.

Resurrection:

God raised Jesus up from the dead. There were more than 500 eye witnesses (1Cor 15:3-8)

Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve for breaking God's laws. Is 59:2

Jesus put to death our bad record with God and offers us His perfect record in exchange. Romans 3:23-24

Jesus made the way for us to begin a new lifelong relationship with God that will last forever. John 3:16

Is there anything that would stop you from wanting to put things right with God right now?

Just believing Jesus came and died on the cross will not save you.

It is like having a parachute sitting on the seat beside you in a plane. You can believe the parachute will save you if the plane went down...

However just believing the parachute will save you is not enough - you need to put the parachute on!

You can believe Jesus died on the cross but that on its own is not enough you need to make Jesus a part of your everyday life....

Another Gospel Summery

Want to hear the kindest act anyone has ever done for you?

Even though we have all shook our fist in God's face and broken His laws; even though we have all lied, stolen, looked with lust, hatedothers, been ungrateful and even used His own name as a swear word; even though we have all fallen short of His standard of goodness and our best works can not earn us His love… Christ died for us!

Jesus took our place as the lawbreaker. It was a legal transaction, we broke God's laws and He took the punishment on our behalf.

God became a man, born of a virgin, Jesus of Nazareth, He lived the perfect sinless life that we can not and then took the punishment on the cross that we deserved. He rose on the third day, defeating death. Because of this we can now be brought back to God as our sin can be forgiven. We can have Jesus’ perfect record credited to us.

To receive this we are commanded to turn from ourselves and our sin and put our faith in Jesus and follow Him. When we do this God also gives us a new heart with new desires so we can love Him and His commandments, we become born again.

We can not earn being in right standing with God, It is a free gift provided by God Himself through faith in Jesus Christ.

So repent, believe the Gospel and be baptisted. Read the Bible every day and grow in the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

The Ultimate Question to ask as you finish?

Other Personalised Presentations

There are slight variations in presentations between evangelists, but the core outline as proposed by Ray Comfort is adhered to as a standard for practise .

It is important that everything we share has a Biblical basis. Each Disciple presents the Flipchart in a way that reflects the salvation message best through their unique personality.

One way is not superior to another. The power for salvation does not lie in the evangelist but in the Gospel itself.
